GLOUCESTER, Mass. — The American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) recognized 14 members of the Elmira College men’s ice hockey team for their performances in the classroom with the announcement of the fifth-annual Krampade All-American Scholars team.
In total, the AHCA recognized a total of 721 men at the Division II-III level, an increase of over 200 student-athletes from just a year ago.
For the Soaring Eagles, Nick Grinvalds ’22 repeated from a season ago for his second consecutive award. Seniors Ben Fleischman ’21, Aleksi Ojala ’21, and Dan Smith ’21 also were tabbed with honors. Ten EC freshmen – Daniel Dimon ’24, Jordan Gonzalez ’24, Chance Gorman ’24, Mitch Haight ’24, Shane Haviland ’24, Bailey Krawczyk ’24, Shawn Kennedy ’24, Amedeo Mastrangeli ’24, Jared Smith ’24, and Janis Vizbelis ’24 – also earned honors.
Due to the effects of COVID-19, the AHCA adopted revised criteria for this year’s honorees. To qualify, a student-athlete must have attained a 3.6 GPA for each semester, regardless of whether the school’s hockey team was able to play this season or not.
