15 Players Named to USA Men’s National Team Including Auburn’s Morin

First 15 Players Named to 2015 U.S. Men’s National Team
Group Includes 2014 Olympian Justin Faulk,
And Four IIHF World Junior Championship Gold Medalists

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Hockey announced today the first 15 players of the 2015 U.S. Men’s National Team that will compete in the 2015 International Ice Hockey Federation Men’s World Championship May 1-17 in Ostrava and Prague, Czech Republic. The initial group of players includes one goaltender, six defensemen and eight forwards.

The group is highlighted by defenseman Justin Faulk (Carolina Hurricanes), a member of the 2014 U.S. Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Team. In five previous IIHF-sanctioned events, Faulk has helped the U.S. to three medals (2013 men’s worlds-bronze; 2011 world juniors-bronze; 2010 U18 men’s worlds-gold). The U.S. roster will also include 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship gold medalists Jake Gardiner (Toronto Maple Leafs) and Jeremy Morin (Columbus Blues Jackets), and 2013 IIHF World Junior Championship gold medalists Connor Murphy (Arizona Coyotes) and Mike Reilly (University of Minnesota).

Among the 15 players named to the 2015 U.S. Men’s National Team, 11 have skated for a U.S. National Team and have combined to win 13 medals in IIHF World Championship play.

NOTES: Eight players are alumni of the United States Hockey League, the only Tier I junior league in the United States, while three players spent time in the North American Hockey League and three in what used to be the Eastern Junior Hockey League. In addition, 11 players have competed at the NCAA Division I level … The 2015 IIHF Men’s World Championship will include teams from 16 nations, split into two groups of eight. Teams will play a round-robin format within their group and the top four teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals. The U.S. will play its seven preliminary round games in Ostrava at CEZ Arena … NBC Sports Network is scheduled to televise and stream all Team USA games in the 2015 IIHF Men’s World Championship. A final broadcast schedule will be available in the near future … The staff and players of the 2015 U.S. Men’s National Team are selected by the U.S. Men’s National Team Advisory Group, led by Jim Johannson, assistant executive director of hockey operations for USA Hockey. Other members include Stan Bowman (Chicago Blackhawks), Dean Lombardi (Los Angeles Kings), David Poile (Nashville Predators), Ray Shero (USA Hockey), Dale Tallon (Florida Panthers), and Don Waddell (Carolina Hurricanes). In addition, Bill Zito (Columbus Blue Jackets) is serving in a management role for the 2015 U.S. Men’s National Team … USA Hockey’s international council, chaired by Gavin Regan (Potsdam, N.Y.), has oversight responsibilities for all U.S. national teams.
