#2 Elmira Over Potsdam Women, 7-1

ELMIRA, N.Y.- Second-ranked Elmira College (8-1, 5-0 ECAC West) jumped out to a 6-0 lead en route to a 7-1 victory over the SUNY Potsdam women’s hockey team (2-5-1, 2-5-1 ECAC West)on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore forward Jordan Ott (Hilton, N.Y./Rochester Edge) scored the lone goal for the Bears. Ashley Ryan had two goals and two assists to lead the Soaring Eagles, while teammate Ashton Hogan also scored twice.

Less than a minute into the contest, Hughson lit the lamp to put Elmira up 1-0. At 9:57, Hogan scored a power-play goal with helpers from Ryan and Brooke Wilgosh to take the 2-0 lead into the break.

The Soaring Eagles seized control of the contest in the second period. At the 5:54 mark, Johanna Eidensten tacked on another power-play goal off assists from Jessica Prance and Phoebe Piku. Less than two minutes later, Meghan Fondara made it 4-0. Ryan scored her first goal at 15:13 off a pass from Hughson. Hogan scored a short-handed goal for her second score of the contest to bring the score to 6-0 to end the period.

Potsdam finally got on the board when Ott scored her sixth goal of the season after connecting with senior forward Izzy Fayerman(Calgary, Alberta/The Edge) at 6:45 of the final period. Elmira then tacked on its last goal at 13:44 when Ryan added her second goal to close the scoring.

Potsdam junior goalie Alexane Rodrigue (Monkland, Ontario/Bemidji State) finished with 32 saves during the first two periods. Freshman goalie Brianna Fiddler (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan/Scanlon Creek) recorded 10 saves in the final period. Soaring Eagle goaltender Kyle Nelson stopped 12 shots in the win.
