Roster set for Under-17 Five Nations Tournament in August |
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Twenty players who participated at the USA Hockey Boys Select 16 Player Development Camp have been chosen for the 2019 U.S. Under-17 Men’s Select Team that will compete Aug. 13-17 at the Five Nations Tournament in Füssen, Germany.The week-long Boys Select 16 Player Development Camp concluded today at the Northtown Center in Amherst, New York, with its annual All-Star Game and Five Nations Tournament roster selection.The 2019 U.S. Under-17 Men’s Select Team features 12 forwards, including Bennett Schimek (Mendota Heights, Minn.) who led the Boys Select 16 Player Development Camp with 14 points (8G, 6A), and Jack Silich (Long Grove, Ill.) who scored five goals in five games. The six-player defensive corps includesSimon Motew (Highland Park, Ill.) who recorded five points (3G, 2A) during camp and Luke Mittelstadt(Eden Prairie, Minn.) who tallied a goal in the All-Star Game. Will Fox (Grosse Point, Mich.) and Hobie Hedquist (Heron Lake, Minn.) were selected as the U.S. Under-17 Men’s Select Team goaltenders. Notable NHL and international players who have represented the U.S. Under-17 Men’s Select Team include Brock Boeser (2013), Dustin Brown (2000), Patrick Kane (2004), Ryan McDonagh (2005) and Troy Terry (2013). Matt Curley (Madrid, N.Y.), current head coach of the University of Alaska Anchorage, will serve as head coach for the U.S. Under-17 Men’s Select Team. His assistant coaches will be Mike Corbett (Green Bay, Wis./University of Alabama-Huntsville), Rich Hansen (New York, N.Y./USA Hockey) and Dave Caruso(Roswell, Ga./Ohio State University). Bill McClellan (St. Paul, Minn.) will serve as team leader and Kenny Rausch (Colorado Springs, Colo.) as team manager. For a complete roster, click here. Team USA skated to its 12th consecutive top-three finish at last year’s 2018 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament in Piestany, Slovakia, posting two wins and two losses to take third place. Since 2007, the United States has claimed tops honors in the tournament seven times, the most recent championship coming in 2017.
