The 2022 USA Hockey Women’s National Festival is being held all this week, August 9-13, in Buffalo at the LECOM Harborcenter. The 2022 U.S. Women’s World Championship Team, the U.S. Collegiate Select Team and the U.S. Under-18 Select Team will be named coming out of the Festival.
116 of the top women’s hockey players from across the U.S., including multiple-time Olympians, to collegiate stars, to the next generation of U18 players. The WWC team will then host precamp in Buffalo from August 14-17.
Five players with New York State connections will be trying out for the U18 team. They include: Annabella Fanale, Webster, NY and currently playing for the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite team; Maggie Scannell, Wynanskill, NY and currently playing for Shattuck-St. Mary’s.
Three other players are trying out who are currently playing for NYS-based teams. They are: Megan Healy, Selects Academy; Peyton Compton, Selects Academy; Finley McCarthy, Selects Academy.
Ten NYS natives will be vying for spots on the WWC and CS teams including: Klara Zanon, Fairport; Sydney Bard, New Hartford; Emily Matheson, Buffalo; Natalie Buchbinder, Fairport; Maureen Murphy, Buffalo.
Emma Seitz, New York; Haley Winn, Rochester; Hayley Scamurra, Getzville; Aerin Frankel, Briarcliff Manor; Abbey Levy, Congers.
There are four players playing for NYS college’s or university’s including: Allyson Simpson, Colgate University; Rory Guilday, Cornell University; Gillis Frechette, Cornell University; Dominique Petrie, Clarkson University.
The final roster for all three teams will be named on Sunday, August 14.
