Julie Juarez has been named manager of social media and communications at USA Hockey and will begin her duties on Monday (Aug. 6).
Juarez served as a media relations assistant for the National Hockey League’s San Jose Sharks during the 2011-12 season. She also worked with the Sharks during the 2006-07 campaign as a media relations intern.
Juarez earned her bachelor’s degree from Santa Clara University in 2007 and worked in her alma mater’s athletic media relations department from 2009-11. She publicized a variety of sports, including women’s soccer, men’s and women’s water polo, baseball and softball. While at Santa Clara she also worked part-time in spearheading social media efforts for the Santa Clara Convention & Visitors Bureau.
She also spent a year-and-a-half as part of the Stanford University athletic media relations staff beginning in January of 2008.
Juarez will be the primary contact for the U.S. Women’s National Team Program and also oversee USA Hockey’s social media efforts.
NOTES: Juarez played NCAA Division I soccer at Santa Clara. She was the starting goalkeeper from 2003-06 and earned All-America honors while helping the Broncos to the 2004 NCAA Women’s College Cup … Juarez is a lifelong hockey fan who began playing six years ago and is also a hockey coach and official.
