OSWEGO, N.Y. – Four different players scored as the Oswego State women’s hockey team (2-2-1, 2-1-0 ECAC West) shut out Potsdam (0-4-0, 0-2-0 ECAC West) 4-0 on Friday night.
Lizzy Marks (Fr., Penfield, N.Y.) ended the scoreless tie nine minutes into the second on a rebound following a Jocelyn St. Clair (Jr., Cambridge, Ontario) blast from the center of the blue line. Mady Paul (Jr., Incline Village, Nevada) also earned an assist on the play that put Oswego State ahead 1-0 heading into the final frame.
The offense broke out for the Lakers in the third period when three goals were scored to ensure the win. Emma Smetaniuk(Jr., Frankford, Ontario) scored from her knees while spinning for the second Oswego State goal five minutes into the period. Leslie Jarvis (Jr., Newmarket, Ontario) and Megan Hagg (Jr., Pickering, Ontario) assisted on the power-play goal.
Four minutes later, the net was crowded with players from both sides as the Bears tried to prevent the Lakers from scoring again. Paul was able to push the puck past the goalie with an assist going to Melissa Seamont (Jr., North Bay, Ontario).
The last Laker goal was scored on a shot inches inside the blue line by Chelsea Hunt (Jr., Brockport, N.Y.) after Seamont and Jarvis fed the point on another power play.
Oswego State ended the game 2-for-6 with an extra attacker, while Potsdam went 0-for-5 on its power-play chances.
Bridget Smith (So., Hamburg, N.Y.) posted 22 saves in her first shutout win of the season and fourth of her career, while Jen Conophy made 18 saves in the loss.
