NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – Junior goaltender Carsen Chubak was named AHA Goalie of the Week for the third-straight week after making the NU record books in the weekend sweep over Army for going 258.32 minutes without allowing a goal.

Chubak now holds the Niagara record for the most consecutive shutout minutes, taking the top spot from Greg Gardner (’00) who held the record with 232.38 minutes.

He made 116 straight stops starting with the 3-0 shutout victory over UConn on Nov. 2 to continue the Purple Eagles shutout streak, but with less than seven minutes to go in the second game this weekend, the Black Knights were finally able to beat Chubak.  The Prince Albert, Sask. native is now tied for third in the NCAA history with three consecutive shutouts, in the company of goalies such as Jimmy Howard and Ryan Miller.

Chubak earned his fourth shutout of the season in the 5-0 victory over Army on Friday, Nov. 9, pushing aside 27 shots becoming the first NU goalie to register three consecutive shutouts.  The junior added another 30 stops in the 4-1 victory the following day.

Chubak is now 6-1-3 on the season, making 311 saves.  The three-time AHA Goalie of the Week holds the top spot in the nation in save percentage (.966), goals-against average (1.09) and shutouts (4).  His winning percentage of .750 places him ninth nationally.

The Purple Eagles take on Canisius in a Battle of the Bridge contest on Friday, Nov. 16 at the Buffalo Sports Complex.  Niagara then kick starts a four-game home stand starting with Robert Morris on Saturday, Nov. 17.  Both games are scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m.

Tickets are still available for Saturday’s contest, so contact the Niagara Tickets Office (located inside Dwyer Arena) at 716-286-TIXX or by emailing [email protected].
