Seven Players Score for Plattsburgh

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Seven different players scored goals to lead the top-ranked Plattsburgh women’s hockey team to a 7-1 win versus Cortland Saturday afternoon in ECAC West action at Alumni Arena. The Red Dragons dropped to 4-13-1 overall and 4-8 in the conference, while the Cardinals improved to 18-0-1 and 11-0.

Senior Maggie Giamo (Orchard Park/RIT) tallied Cortland’s goal with junior Gina Tomei (Bronx/Sound Shore Warriors) collecting an assist. Freshman goalie Deanna Meunier (Parsippany, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) made a career-high 58 saves, just four shy of the school record.

Freshman Giovanna Senese (Huntley, IL/Chicago Mission) led Plattsburgh with one goal and two assists. Junior Jenny Kistner (Peoria, IL/University of Maine), sophomore Alyssa Parke (Lynbrook/NSA) anf freshman Andrea Ziesmann (Oakville, ON/Oakville Jr. Hornets) each had one goal and one assist, and senior Teal Gove (Berwick, ON/Ontario Hockey Academy), junior Ali Vakos (Hamden, CT/UConn) and sophomore Shannon Stewart (Pickering, ON/Durham West Lightning) netted one goal apiece. Sophomore goalie Ally Ross (Red Lion, PA/Gilmour Academy) stopped seven shots.

The Cardinals built a 3-0 lead after the first period as Kistner, Ziesman and Stewart each scored. Plattsburgh added two goals, both on the power play from Sense and Parke, in the second period for a 5-0 advantage. Teal tallied a power-play goal 30 seconds into the third period before Giamo netted a short-handed goal 47 seconds later with a shot from the right side over Ross’s shoulder. Vakos completed the scoring with a one-timer in front at 11:14.
