FREDONIA, N.Y.— Will McLaughlin scored two second period goals for
Fredonia State (6-13-2 (4-7-1 SUNYAC) as the Blue Devils shutout the SUNY
Potsdam men’s hockey team (6-13-1 (3-8-0 SUNYAC) 2-0  on Friday night.
Freshman goaltender John Hall (Dexter, N.Y./Stouffville Spirit) made 19
saves for the Bears.

Fredonia edged Potsdam 9-7 in first period shots and each team was unable
to take advantage of its lone power play.

McLaughlin struck just 21 seconds into the second stanza for the eventual
game-winner. Chris Jung and Matt Hehr each assisted on the goal.
McLaughlin scored again just over six minutes later, providing more than
enough insurance for the Blue Devils. After the Bears killed off a
Fredonia power play, a scuffle resulted in coincidental minors and a
five-minute Potsdam man advantage. Junior forward Adam Place (Scarborough,
Ontario/Bowmanville Eagles) rang the post during the power play, but that
was as close as the Bears came to breaking through.

The Bears outshot the Blue Devils 8-4 in the final 20 minutes and were
unable to convert on the contest’s final power play. With 31 seconds left,
Potsdam pulled Hall for an extra attacker, but couldn’t get any closer.

Fredonia goalie Mark Friesen stopped all 25 shots that came his way to
earn his fifth victory of the season. Both teams were 0-3 on the power
play.

The Bears are now 21-33 -5 all-time against the Blue Devils and have not
won in Fredonia since Nov. 4, 2006.
