POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY Potsdam men’s hockey players Shane Talarico
(Greensburg, Pa./Elmira College) and Billy Pascalli (Deer Park, N.Y./New
York Bobcats) have been recognized by the State University of New York
Athletic Conference for their play last weekend. Talarico is the
conference’s Goalie of the Week and Pascalli is the Rookie of the Week.
Last Friday night, Talarico entered the game in relief after the Bears
lost starter Jon Hall to injury. He responded with 22 saves in a critical
4-3 overtime victory against Brockport. His play earned him the starting
nod against No. 14 Geneseo the following night. Talarico stopped 24 Ice
Knight shots in a dramatic 4-3 overtime win on Saturday. The victory was
the third of his collegiate career and his first as a starting goalie. The
junior has posted a 3-3 record, a goals-against-average of 3.95 and a save
percentage of .887 this season.
Pascalli had a three-point weekend for the Potsdam. Against the Golden
Eagles, he had an assist and scored the game-winning goal 2:17 into
overtime to keep the Bears’ playoff hopes alive. Against Geneseo, the
freshman recorded an assist in Potsdam’s first win over a ranked team in
four seasons. This year Pascalli is fifth on the team in scoring with
seven goals and 10 assists for 17 points. His points are the fourth most
from a freshman in the SUNYAC this year.
The Bears wrap up the regular season this weekend with two home games at
Massena Arena. On Friday, Potsdam hosts No. 2 Oswego at 7 p.m. The next
evening SUNY Cortland invades for another 7 p.m. start with a playoff spot
on the line.
