CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After a scoreless first period, Harvard tallied
three goals in the second period en route to a 4-1 win over the Colgate men’s hockey team on Friday night at Bright Hockey Center.
Colgate (13-12-4, 5-9-3) got its lone goal on the power play and it came from Mike Borkowski with the assists to Tyson Spink and Tylor Spink. Spencer Finney got the start and made 18 saves.
The Crimson (7-15-2, 4-12-1 ECAC) saw Marshall Everson score two goals in the second period to put Harvard on top for good at 3-1. Alex Fallstrom also scored for the home team and Kyle Criscuolo and Brian Hart. Raphael Girard earned the win with 27 saves on 28 shots.
After a scoreless first period, the Crimson got on the board first under a minute into the second frame. The referee waved off the first chance that looked to go in, but the Crimson stuck with the play and Fallstrom put home his second shot during a scrum in front.
The Raiders tied it up on the power play with Borkowski scoring his second of the year with 14:20 left in the period. After a long possession by Colgate, Tyson Spink slipped a cross-ice pass through the defense to Borkowski at the opposite circle and the rookie ripped a shot off the cross bar and in to tie it at 1-1.
Fallstrom then scored the final two goals of the period with one coming off of his shin pad in front on a rebound. Criscuolo took a shot that Finney pushed aside, but the puck then hit off of Fallstrom and into the net. He then struck again with 4:49 remaining in the second to make it 3-1 in favor of the Crimson. He received a pass from Criscuolo in the slot and he flipped a backhand over Finney’s glove for his second of the night.
Colgate had its chances in the third period with five power plays, but only managed four shots on goal and Girard made all four saves.
Harvard added to its lead late in the game with an empy net goal by Dan Ford to close out the scoring at 4-1. Overall, Colgate was 1-for-7 on the power play and the Crimson failed on three chances. The Raiders did outshoot Harvard by a 28-24 margin.
The Raiders will be back on the ice tomorrow night at 7 p.m. against Dartmouth at Thompson Arena.
