Former Raider Goalie Posts 3 Wins and 2 Shutouts for Medvescak Zagreb in Croatia
HAMILTON – Former Colgate hockey standout netminder Mark Dekanich ’08 was recently named goalie of the week for the Kontinental Hockey League over in Europe.
Dekanich plays for Medvescak Zagreb in Croatia and has appeared in 16 games so far this season and is 6-7 with a 2.17 goals against average. He has a .935 save percentage in over 1100 minutes of ice time.
The North Vancouver, B.C., native was selected as the best goaltender in the league for week 13 of the season. In four road starts, he earned three wins, including two shutouts. Dekanich posted a .974 save percentage and a 0.98 GAA during the week.
Dekanich is a 2008 graduate of Colgate University and was a fifth round draft pick (146th overall) of the Nashville Predators in 2006. He played mostly in the American Hockey League from 2008 to 2013 before moving overseas. Dekanich did get time in the National Hockey League with the Predators and also the Columbus Blue Jackets.
