Ott retains ECAC West rookie honor, Silveira remains on honor roll

POTSDAM, N.Y.—In a repeat of last week’s Eastern College Athletic
Conference West’s awards, SUNY Potsdam women’s hockey players Jordan Ott
(Hilton, N.Y./Rochester Edge) and Jessica Silveira (Brampton,
Ontario/Brampton Thunder) were honored by the conference for their play
over the weekend. Ott was named the ECAC West Rookie of the Week for the
fifth time in 11 weeks, while Silveira retained her spot on the honor
roll.

Ott, a freshman, ended her week in spectacular fashion in Potsdam’s sweep
of Chatham. With the Bears trailing 3-2 with 30 seconds left in Saturday’s

seconds into overtime, she buried a rebound to give Potsdam a 4-3 victory.
Ott also had an assist in the game for a 3-point day.

the second best on the Bears. Her 1.29 points-per-game rank her 14th in
the nation in scoring and second nationally among rookies. Ott is fifth in
the country in goals-per-game with 0.88 and second in power-play-goals
with seven.

the weekend. The senior also assisted on Ott’s game-tying and game-winning
goals in the Bears’ 4-3 victory over the Cougars on Saturday.

This season, Silveira has eight goals and 15 assists for 23 points to lead
Potsdam and tie her career single-season mark. She has scored a goal in
each of the Bears’ last five games and has 15 points in the last eight
contests (1.88 ppg). The four-point weekend moves Silveira up to six spots
to 18th in the nation in scoring with 1.28 points-per-game. She is also
ranks 13th in the NCAA in assists-per-game with 0.83, keeping her tied
with teammate Brittany Lucky. With 70 points (32g, 38a), Silveira is the
Bears’ third all-time leading scorer.

The Potsdam (9-6-3, 5-3-3 ECAC West) is 3-0-1 in its last four games and
7-2-2 in its last 11. The Bears are currently tied for third in the
conference, closing in on their third straight playoff appearance and
fourth in the last five seasons.

Next, Potsdam will face a daunting challenge when the Bears head to
Plattsburgh State on Saturday for a 7 p.m. showdown with the top-ranked
and undefeated Cardinals.
