| POTSDAM, N.Y.-A program record 12 SUNY Potsdam women’s hockey players have been named to the 2013-14 Eastern College Athletic Conference West All-Academic team. Only two of the nine other teams in the conference had more players recognized than the Bears.
Junior captain Izzy Fayerman (Calgary, Alberta/The Edge) played in 24 of Potsdam’s 26 games this season and was fifth on the team in scoring. She scored eight goals, including three on the power play and two game winners, and recorded six assists for 14 points. Sophomore forward Sally Mooney (New Albany, Ohio/Wyoming Seminary) was limited to just 10 games due to injury, but still finished with a goal and five assists for six points. She scored the game-winning goal against Saint Michael’s in the Bears triumphant return to newly renovated Maxcy Hall on Nov. 2. Senior forward Jessica Silveira (Brampton, Ontario/Brampton Thunder) had a career year, while playing in all 26 games for the Bears. She tied for the team-lead in scoring with 11 goals and 25 assists for 36 points. Silveira’s assists and points were both single-season Potsdam records. She had two power play goals and two game-winners. Her average of 1.38 points-per-game and 0.96 assists-per-game were ninth and fourth best in the nation, respectively. Silveira is Potsdam’s third all-time leading scorer with 35 goals and 48 assists for 83 points. Senior assistant captain Jenn Crawford (Burlington, Ontario/Stoney Creek Sabres) played in all 26 games for Potsdam during the 2013-14 season. She scored six goals, including two on the power play, and assisted on seven others for 13 points. During her four-year career, Crawford played in all 102 of the Bears’ contests. She finished her tenure as Potsdam’s fifth all-time leading scorer with 27 goals and 26 assists for 53 points. Sophomore defenseman Katie Marsman (Wantagh, N.Y./Wyoming Seminary) manned the blue line in all 26 games for the Bears. She provided toughness and stability in an otherwise injury-plagued defensive corps. She recorded three assists on the season. Sophomore Rachel Grefke (Livonia, Mich./Victory Honda) played in every one of Potsdam’s 26 contests this season She started the year on defense and finished as a forward, while recording three assists. Sophomore goaltender Alexane Rodrigue (Monkland, Ontario/Bemidji State) started 19 games for Potsdam, winning a school record 10 contests with a 10-4-4 overall mark. She posted shutouts against Cortland (Nov. 22) and Chatham (Jan. 24) Rodrigue finished the season with a .906 save percentage and a 2.95 goals-against-average. Freshman goaltender Abby Tardelli (Potsdam, N.Y./North Country Ice Storm) had a strong first year with the Bears. She made seven starts and recorded two victories, including a 2-0 shutout of Saint Michael’s College on Dec. 6. Tardelli had a 3.82 goals-against-average and a .890 save percentage. Freshman defenseman Emily Kriwox (Tupper Lake, N.Y./Tupper Lake H.S.) played 24 of Potsdam’s 26 contests. The Tupper Lake native provided much needed depth on the blue line in 2013-14. Senior captain Brittany Lucky (Kanata, Ontario/Ottawa Senators) finished her career with her best season. Lucky was fourth on the team in scoring with four goals, including three power-play markers, and 22 assists for 26 points. The Bears captain was named honorable mention All-ECAC West after tying for eighth in the nation in assists-per-game (0.85) and fourth in points-per-game by a defenseman (1.00). In 101 career games, Lucky totaled 16 goals and 44 assists for 60 points, placing her fourth on the program’s all-time scoring list. Sophomore forward Natasha Allen (Aspen, Colo./Ontario Hockey Academy) was on the ice for each contest the Bears played this season. She gave Potsdam quality minutes on several lines when the need arose. Senior assistant captain Amanda Lucky (Kanata, Ontario/Clarkson University) broke out with a personal best 30 points this year. She scored 12 goals, including three game-winners, and added 18 assists, making her the team’s second-leading scorer. The forward’s 1.15 points-per-game placed her 21st in the nation in scoring. In two seasons with Potsdam, Lucky scored 18 goals and assisted on 27 others for 45 points. The Bears’ 2013-14 campaign was one of the best in team history. The Bears tied their overall and conference wins mark with a 12-10-4 record (7-5-4 ECAC West). Their first ever winning record in conference play helped the Bears clinch their third straight playoff berth and the fourth in the program’s six seasons.
