Men’s Hockey Welcomes Five in Class of 2018
Raiders Add a Pair of Goalies and Three Skaters
HAMILTON – Head coach Don Vaughan and the men’s hockey program have announced the incoming Colgate Class of 2018, which features five newcomers.
The class is split up between United States and Canadian players with three from the U.S. and two from Ontario. The Raiders are welcoming two players representing Minnesota and one from Maryland.
“We are excited to welcome these five outstanding student athletes to the Colgate Hockey program,” head coach Don Vaughan said. “I want to thank Brad Dexter ’96 and Jason Lefevre ’02 for their hard work in identifying and helping bring these young men to Colgate.
“These three forwards and two goaltenders bring with them tremendous work ethic, character and specific skill sets that fit perfectly into our culture and style of play. We are looking forward to getting them on campus in August and welcoming them into the Colgate Hockey Family.”
Zac Hamilton comes to Colgate from Ottawa, Ont., and the Westminster School in Connecticut. The goalie had a .911 save percentage in the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council. He was a two-time member of the Flood-Marr All-Tournament Team and was named the Westminster Most Valuable Player in 2013. Hamilton was also team captain for his final season.
Mike Panowyk joins the Raiders from the Whitby Fury of the Ontario Junior Hockey League. He posted 86 points in the two seasons with his best year coming in 2013-14 with 68 points. Panowyk had 23 goals and 45 assists in 46 games with the Fury last year and the 86 points scored in his two years were in 94 games and it was 30 goals and 56 assists. He was a second team OJHL All-Star in 2013-14 and was Whitby’s Rookie of the Year in 2012-13.
Evan Peterson makes the trip to Hamilton from the Carleton Place Canadians of the Central Canadian Hockey League. He scored 152 points in his two seasons in the CCHL with 24 points in postseason play. Peterson recorded 96 points in his final season on 34 goals and 62 points. He had 56 points in his first year with the Canadians. He tallied 73 career points while playing at Lakeville North High School and was All-Conference as a senior in 2012.
Bruce Racine comes to Colgate after playing for the Connecticut Junior Yankees of the USPHL and EJHL’s Connecticut Oilers the last two seasons. Racine was a 2014 USPHL All-Star in net, playing in 30 games for the Yankees. He appeared in net for 18 with the Oilers in 2012-13. He won two Interstate Athletic Conference Championships in Maryland at Georgetown Preparatory School.
Sebastian Weberg joins the Raiders after spending two seasons with the Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League. He had 34 points in two years with the Gamblers on 20 goals and 14 assists. He was part of Team Norway at the 2013 U20 World Junior Championships and scored two goals in five games and also appeared for Norway in the U18 World Juniors in 2011 and had two helpers. He played at Shattuck St. Mary’s and compiled 245 career points in 174 games. Weberg had 80 goals and 165 helpers for the Sabres. He was the Northern Lakes Hockey League scoring leader and most valuable player in 2012.
