Former Niagara hockey defenseman Kevin Ryan has been added to the Columbus Blue Jackets roster that will be taking part in the Annual National Hockey League Prospect Tournament from Sept. 12-16 at the Center Ice Arena in Traverse City, Mich.
The 25 players participating in the tournament will undergo physicals and fitness testing as well as an on-ice practice session at the OhioHealth Ice Haus, the club’s official practice facility at Nationwide Arena on Thursday, Sept. 11 before departing for Traverse City.
Ryan will be one of 25 players, 19 of which were selected by the club via the NHL Draft. In 147 games for Niagara, which included 132 consecutive starts, the Eden, N.Y. native notched seven goals and 50 assists for 57 points. The two-time Atlantic Hockey Third Team honoree was signed by South Carolina Stingrays of the East Coast Hockey League at the completion of his Niagara career.
This year will mark Columbus’ 13th consecutive appearance at the tournament. The Blue Jackets won the tournament title in 2006 and 2007. Participating clubs include Detroit Red Wings, Minnesota Wild, St. Louis Blues, Buffalo Sabres, Carolina Hurricanes, Dallas Stars and New York Rangers.
