HAMILTON – Freshman Mike Panowyk scored the game-winning goal midway through the second period and sophomore goalie Charlie Finn recorded his second career shutout as fourth-ranked Colgate defeated Northeastern, 3-0, in collegiate men’s ice hockey action Friday at Starr Rink.

Panowyk’s goal at the 9:44 mark of the second period broke open a scoreless contest and Finn made the freshman’s first collegiate tally count as he notched 24 saves, including 16 during the third period, to keep the Huskies off the scoreboard and propel the Raiders to their second victory of the season. Juniors Darcy Murphy and Kyle Baun also scored for Colgate as the duo notched a pair of third period tallies to give the Raiders some breathing room during the final stanza.

With the win, Colgate Head Coach Don Vaughan recorded the 350th victory of his career, becoming one of only 11 active coaches in NCAA Division I Hockey to reach the milestone.
