Rochester, New York – Over 6400 ice hockey players and family members will come together this weekend for the Fire on Ice hockey tournament. The annual event which takes place at Bill Gray’s Regional Iceplex and other local ice rinks, runs from November 6th through the 9th.
In total, 169 girls youth hockey teams will compete, of which 145 teams travel in from outside the area and call Rochester home throughout the event. These teams represent a wide range of States in the US (AZ, CA, CT, IL, ME, MA, MI, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, TX, VT, WA and DC), as well as multiple teams from Canada. The 145 out of town teams equates to roughly 5400 out of town guests that will reside in local hotels, dine in local restaurants and shop in local stores over a three day period.
The event will also feature a NCAA D1 women’s ice hockey game on Saturday when St. Lawrence University takes on Dartmouth at 5:00pm in the feature arena at the Iceplex. The game is free of charge and open to the general public.
Based on the National Association of Sports Commissions Economic Impact Assumptions, this event will result in approximately $2,400,000 of economic impact to the local community.
