Matt Garbowsky and Jordan Ruby collect Atlantic Hockey weekly honors

ROCHESTER, NY – Seniors Matt Garbowsky (St. George, Ontario/Powell River Kings) andJordan Ruby (Tavistock, Ontario/Wellington Dukes) of the men’s hockey team earned Atlantic Hockey weekly honors on Tuesday for the week ending Nov. 16, 2014. Garbowsky was named the league’s Player of the Week, while Ruby was named the Goaltender of the Week. It is Garbowsky’s third weekly honor of his collegiate career and Ruby’s second.

Garbowsky tallied five points on four goals and an assist, leading the Tigers to three-point weekend at Canisius’ new HARBORCENTER. On Friday, Garbowsky recorded his first collegiate hat-trick and seventh in RIT’s 10-year Division I history, scoring all three goals, including the game-tying tally with 2:52 left in a 3-3 tie. On Saturday, Garbowsky scored the eventual game-winner early in the second period and drew the primary assist on Brad McGowan (Langley, British Columbia/Surrey Eagles)’s third period goal in a 3-0 win over the Golden Griffins. Garbowsky has a point in 10 of 11 games this season and has six goals over his last four games. He is among the national leaders with nine goals and 15 points in 11 games this season.

Ruby stopped 41-of-44 shots in a 1-0-1 weekend for the Tigers. On Saturday, Ruby picked up his second career shutout, stopping all 19 shots he faced in a 3-0 win over Canisius. Ruby is now 2-2-2 this season with a 2.29 goals against average and .916 save percentage.

The Tigers are back in action this weekend with a pair of games against Sacred Heart at the Gene Polisseni Center. Both games begin at 7:05 p.m.
