HAMILTON – Senior forward Joe Wilson scored his second goal of the game with 1:16 remaining in overtime to lift sixth-ranked Colgate to a 4-3 victory over Brown in ECAC men’s ice hockey action Friday at Starr Rink.
Wilson’s decisive tally capped a three-goal comeback for the Raiders after the Bears scored back-to-back goals in the second period to break a 1-1 tie and build a 3-1 lead.
The North Syracuse, N.Y., native had a hand in all three goals of the Colgate rally. He assisted on junior Kyle Baun’s shorthanded tally in the second period and pulled the Raiders even with a power play goal early in the third before scoring with 76 seconds remaining to give Colgate the overtime triumph.

– Colgate extended its unbeaten streak to four games as it moved to 3-1-2 in ECAC Hockey action and 9-3-1 overall.

How It Happened
– Brown took a 1-0 lead less than five minutes into the contest as Senior Matt Lorito chased down a dump in from the stick of fellow senior Joe deConcilys and fired a shot from the goal line that snuck past Colgate keeper Charlie Finn to stake the Bears to the early advantage. Junior Nick Lappin was also credited with an assist on the play.
– Colgate drew even just before the 13-minute mark of the first as sophomore Andrew Black fired home a wrist from the top of the slot to knot the score at 1-1. Sophomores Emilio Audi and Brett Corkey drew assists on Black’s goal, his second of the season.
– The Bears regained their lead 6:01 into the second period when deConcilys scored on a wrist shot from the left faceoff circle to put Brown back in front, 2-1. Sophomore Davey Middleton earned an assist on the play.
– Lorito doubled the Bears margin to 3-1 at the 16:17 mark of the second period when he wired a wrist shot into the top of the net for his second goal of the game..
– Colgate trimmed its deficit in half just 40 second’s after Lorito’s goal with a shorthanded tally from Baun, who took a feed from Wilson at the Brown blue line and worked his way towards the goal before sliding the puck past sophomore Tyler Steel to make it a 3-2 game.
– Wilson tied the game in the seventh minute of the third period with a power play goal. Senior Daniel Gentzler started the sequence by working the puck back to junior Ryan Johnston at the right point, where he sent a pass to a wide-open Wilson at the left post. Wilson directed Johnston’s back-door feed into the cage to knot the score at 3-3.
– Wilson notched the game-winning goal with 1:16 remaining in overtime. Sophomore Jake Kulevich began the play by breaking up a Brown rush at the Colgate blue line, allowing Wilson to collect the loose puck in the neutral zone and head up ice. He worked his way down the left side and past the Bears defense before slipping the puck between the legs of Steel for the decisive tally.

– The two teams attempted 33 shots apiece in the contest. Colgate held the shot advantage in the first (13-8) and third (7-5) periods as well as overtime (2-0) while the Bears posted a 20-11 margin in the second.

– Wilson also tallied two goals in a game for just the second time in his career. He scored twice in a 6-2 victory over Sacred Heart on Jan. 4, 2013.
– Baun scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season with his second period tally. The goal was also the third shorthanded goal of his career.
– With his assist on Black’s first-period goal, Corkey became the 19th different Colgate player to tally a point this season.
– With his assist on Wilson’s overtime goal, Kulevich extended his point-scoring streak to four games (2G/2A).
– Raiders keeper Charlie Finn recorded 30 or more saves in a game for the third time this season and the 11th time in his career as he ended the evening with 30 stops. He improved to 3-0-0 in 2014-15 and 6-2-3 during his career when turning aside 30 or more shots in a game.
