Hobart College senior forward Sean Rudy (Long Sault, Ontario) was named the ECAC West Player of the Week after leading the Statesmen hockey team with five points in a 2-0-0 weekend. It’s the second week in a row the award has gone to a Statesman, as senior Mac Olson took home the honor last week.

Rudy chipped in two assists in a 6-2 win over Neumann at The Cooler on Friday night. In a 3-2 win over the Knights on Saturday, he had a hand in all of Hobart’s goals, scoring twice, including the game winner, and adding an assist. Rudy has played in 15 games this season. He has recorded five goals and seven assists for 12 points.

In addition, first-year goaltender Frank Oplinger (Sewickley, Pa.) earned a spot on the league’s weekly honor roll. With two wins over Neumann, he improved to 7-2-0 in goal this season. Oplinger played 59:58 in goal on Friday and made 37 saves. He played all 60 minutes between the pipes on Saturday and stopped 31 shots. Oplinger is sporting a 2.56 goals against average and a .923 save percentage this season. He leads the ECAC West with a .778 winning percentage.

The Statesmen (14-6-0, 7-3-0 ECAC West) are currently tied with Nazareth for first in the conference standings with 12 points. Hobart will travel to Utica for two ECAC West games this weekend. The Statesmen and the Pioneers will meet in the Utica Memorial Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6 and Saturday, Feb. 7.
