Williamsville Girls Advance to Finals in Section VI

AGaffneyHannahRocheOnce again no one could predict who would take home the win when Orchard Park/Frontier met Williamsville in the semi-finals of the WNY Girls Varsity Ice Hockey Section VI championships.

 

FOP came out with a goal by Tatum Walber at 7:28 of the first period. The period ended 1-0 in favor of FOP.

 

Williamsville answered back in at 12:44 of the second off the stick of Amanda Gaffney, assisted by Holly Schmelzer. They then secured their second period lead when Jordan Roetzer got one past Mikaela Ditonto at with 3:59 left in the second.

 

It looked like Williamsville would take a 3-0 victory when early in the third Leah Czerwinski scored. However, FOP answered back, twice, with goals from Frangelica Bautz and Tatum Walber.

 

Tied at the end of the third, the game went into a 7:30 minute overtime period.

Williamsville’s Sara Scolnick put in the game winner with 3:14 left in the first overtime.

 

Williamsville now meets Kenmore in the WNY Section VI championship on Wednesday, February 4 at Northtowns. The winner of that matchup is awarded the Section VI championship and a trip to the NYS Girls Varsity Ice Hockey Championships at HarborCenter this weekend (Feb. 6 & 7).
