BUFFALO, NY—No. 1-ranked Elmira (19-1-1/14-0-0) used three third-period goals to pull away from visiting Buffalo State (9-10-2/7-7-0) for a 5-0 victory today in an ECAC West contest.

Buffalo State hung with the nation’s top-ranked team for the second-consecutive day with the Soaring Eagles netting only a power-play goal in each of the first two periods to take a 2-0 advantage into the final frame. Elmira poured on the pressure in the final 20 minutes, however, outshooting the Bengals 15-7, and added the three insurance markers, including a pair that came 25 seconds apart.

The Soaring Eagles finished with a 35-26 edge in shots. Justine Silva (El Monte, CA/Arroyo) totaled 30 saves in goal for Buffalo State. Elmira’s power play finished 2 for 4, and Buffalo State was unable to convert on its six attempts.

Buffalo State will visit Cortland for a pair of league games next Saturday and Sunday.
