OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team defeated Stevenson University 2-0 on Friday night at the Marano Campus Center Arena. The win had special meaning as it was Diane Dillon’s 100th win of her career. Dillon has been head coach of the team ever since its reboot in 2006. With the win the Lakers also cap another milestone, eclipsing its 16 regular-season wins from last year by improving to 17-4-1. Stevenson moves to 16-7-1 on the year.

After neither team found the back of the net during the first 20 minutes, Oswego’s Brianna Rice broke the stand still. While on the power-play, Lizzy Marks sent a pass through the crease where a scramble for the puck ensued. Erika Truschke got a piece of it before it was ultimately put in by Rice with 4:48 remaining in the second stanza.

The Lakers would then add an insurance goal, early in the third period to go up 2-0 on the Mustangs.Andrea Noss back-handed a pass from behind the net to Olivia Ellis who slipped it past the goaltender just 35 seconds into the third.

Bridget Smith handled everything in net for the Lakers, saving all 20 of the shots fired at her. The Hamburg native collected her sixth shutout of the season and improved to No. 2 in shutouts nationally.

Women’s ice hockey will be back in action at 3 p.m. Saturday as it finishes its home series against the Mustangs of Stevenson.
