UTICA, NY-Freshman defender Samantha Husak (Jackson, MI/Team Detroit) of the Utica College women’s hockey team has been named to the ECAC West All-Rookie Team in a release by the conference office on Thursday.
In her first season with Utica, Husak appeared in 23 games. She recorded two goals and eight assists for a total of 10 points. She also posted a plus/minus rating of +1. Husak picked up her first collegiate assist and point in a 2-0 victory at William Smith on November 8th. She went on to score her first career goal on January 30th in a 1-1 tie with Neumann University.
Eight of her 10 points came in ECAC West Conference play, making her the top scoring rookie defenseman in conference games this season. She also ranked 15th overall in conference scoring in the ECAC West.
UC earned the No. 4 seed in the upcoming ECAC West Tournament. They will host the No. 5 seed Buffalo State at the Aud on Saturday night in quarterfinal action (7 p.m.).
The Pioneers head into the conference tournament with an overall record of 10-10-5 and a conference record of 7-7-4. They posted a 5-4-1 record at the friendly confines of the Utica Auditorium. Buffalo State heads into the contest with an overall record of 10-12-3 and 8-9-1 in conference play. The two teams met twice this season resulting in a 3-3 tie and a 3-2 Pioneer victory.
