The Hobart College hockey team was ranked No. 10 in the final USCHO.com poll of the season. The Statesmen finished the year with a 21-7-0 overall record, earning their fifth NCAA tournament appearance in program history.
Hobart tied the program record for wins in a season with its 21 victories this year. The Statesmen posted a 12-3-0 conference record to finish first in the ECAC West regular season standings. Hobart topped Elmira 5-1 in their ECAC West tournament semifinal and then defeated Neumann 2-1 in overtime in the championship game to capture its third ECAC West tournament title.
Senior Brad McBride (Lone Tree, Colo.) earned a spot on this year’s American Hockey Coaches Association/CCM East All-America third team. In addition, senior Tommaso Traversa (Torino, Italy) was tabbed the ECAC West Defensive Player of the Year and Head Coach Mark Taylor was selected the ECAC West Coach of the Year. McBride, Traversa, senior Ryan Michel (Camillus, N.Y.) and first-year Frank Oplinger (Sewickley, Pa.) were named to the All-ECAC West first team. Junior Bo Webster (Aurora, Ontario) earned a spot on the second team, and senior Terrence O’Neill (Kearny, N.J.) garnered honorable mention. Oplinger was also named to the all-rookie team.
The Hobart Class of 2015 finished with a 70-31-7 four-year record, earning two ECAC West regular season and tournament titles in their four years. Michel finished his career with 60 assists, which ties him for ninth on the all-time Hobart list.
The Statesmen have now logged 13 consecutive winning seasons.
