New York, which led by four goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by Roc City and clinched a 5-3 victory.
New York led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when New York’s Augie Onorato scored at 15:24 in the first period to put New York up 4-0.
New York pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 30 penalty minutes.
New York was paced by Ryan Poirier, who finished with one goal. Poirier scored 4:51 into the first period to make the score 2-0 New York.
New York forced Roc City’s goaltenders to work in net, totaling 35 shots and forcing 30 saves. Justin Nevinger made 20 stops and Ian Stahl made 10. New York put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Roc City to score on any of its six power plays. The defensemen of New York were also effective in Roc City’s zone, and came away with two goals.
New York also had goals scored by Daniel Backstrom and Nicholas Lermer, who scored one goal each. In addition, New York received assists from Jimmy Warrick and Ricky Regala, who each chipped in one and Corey Rees and Alex Rojas, who contributed two each.
Roc City forced New York goalie Anthony DiGiorgio to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. Roc City was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 26 penalty minutes.
Roc City was helped by Cameron Clark, who racked up two goals. Clark scored the first of his two goals at 8:31 into the second period to make the score 4-2 New York. Mike Elliott picked up the assist. Clark’s next tally made the score 5-3 New York with 7:09 left in the third period. Anthony DePetres provided the assist. Roc City also got points from Sam Cammilleri, who also tallied one goal and one assist.
DiGiorgio rejected 28 shots on goal for New York. New York registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
