Cortland And Geneseo Play To 1-1 Tie

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland and Geneseo men’s hockey teams played to a 1-1 overtime tie Saturday night in SUNYAC action at Alumni Arena. After the game, the Red Dragons’ record stands at 0-1-1 overall and in the conference and the Knights are 0-0-2 on the season and in league play.

Sophomore Dan Broderick (White Plains/New York PAL Islanders) scored for Cortland with senior Sam Pinsler (Chicago, IL/Green Mountain Glades) and sophomore Cory Lauer (Mt. Juliet, TN/Toronto Lakeshore Patriots) each recording an assist. Sophomore goalie Drew Weigman (Gaithersburg, MD/Northern Cyclones) turned aside 37 shots.

Freshman Arthur Gordon (Edmonton, AB/Sherwood Park Crusaders) netted Geneseo’s goal. Sophomore Pat Condon (Merrick/Bay State Breakers) and freshman Anthony Marra (Guelph, ON/Georgetown Raiders) chipped in with assists. Freshman goalie Devon McDonald (Calgary, AB/Camrose Kodiaks) made 28 saves.

After a scoreless first period in which the Knights outshot the Red Dragons, 10-4, Broderick gave Cortland a 1-0 lead just 58 seconds into the second period. Lauer took a shot from the point that bounced off of Pinsler and to Broderick, who sent a wrist shot through traffic and past McDonald.

The goal held up until 4:17 into the third period when Gordon scored on a one-time slap shot from the right circle on the power play. Cortland had a final power-play opportunity midway through the period but could not capitalize. In overtime, Geneseo outshot Cortland, 4-3.
