HAMILTON – Darcy Murphy scored with five seconds remaining in the second period to break a 1-1 tie and lead Colgate to a 2-1 victory over Princeton in ECAC Hockey action Saturday at Starr Rink.
With time running out in the middle period, Murphy collected the puck deep in the Raiders end and worked his way into the Princeton zone before firing a snap shot from the top of the left faceoff circle past the glove of Tigers’ netminder Colton Phinney for the game-winner.
Tyson Spink put Colgate in front, 1-0, at the 7:21 mark of the first period, collecting a loose puck in the middle of the slot before roofing a backhander just under the cross bar for his fourth goal of the season.
Eric Robinson tied the game at 1-1 midway through the second period when he netted his second goal of the campaign on a wrist shot from just below the left faceoff dot.
Charlie Finn made 30 stops in goal for Colgate to pick up his fourth win of the season. Phinney finished with 30 saves for Princeton.

“The first 10 minutes of the game might have been the best we’ve played all year. We had four or five grade A chances, the power play looked good, we hit a post, their kid made a couple of big saves, it could have easily been three or four-nothing after that.
“We knew the kind of game we were going to see and we saw it. They came real hard at us and we had to hang on in the end. We bend but don’t break, and that’s what we did at the end of the night.”
