New York, NY — The National Women’s Hockey League (NWHL) has announced the representatives who will serve on the NWHL Player’s Association (NWHLPA) board this season. The NWHLPA will consist of two players from each team, voted on by their teammates, and will be presided over by former US Olympian Erika Lawler, the Director of the NWHLPA.

“The main reason this league was founded was to start treating the players they way they deserve,” said Lawler. “It’s the NWHLPA’s responsibility to make sure we create an entity that works towards creating an optimal experience for the players.”

“We will be working towards elevating the player experience to the next level and will continue to ensure that players have a strong presence in the way the league operates.”

The player representatives are Emily Pfalzer and Meghan Duggan from the Buffalo Beauts, Celeste Brown and Taylor Holze from the New York Riveters, Kelli Stack and Kaleigh Fratkin from the Connecticut Whale, and Hilary Knight and Brianna Decker from the Boston Pride. For updates, you can follow the NWHLPA on Twitter @NWHLPA.

“It’s important to continue down the path of structuring a league around what’s in the best interest of the players,” Lawler continued. “These women are the league’s most important employees. They are the product. They must be provided with the support they need to continue growing the sport of women’s hockey. It’s the PA’s role to set goals and create action plans around how to improve the NWHL player experience- and I am excited for this opportunity.”

“There is a lot of work to be done, but I am confident we have taken a huge step in the right direction, and I look forward to improving on the foundation that the league has done a great job creating.”
