CORTLAND, N.Y. – Senior Olivia Nystrom (Vaxholm, Sweden/Ormsta HC) tallied two goals to lead the nationally third-ranked Elmira women’s ice hockey team to a 4-0 win at Cortland Saturday afternoon in ECAC West action at Alumni Arena.
Senior goalie Deanna Meunier (Parsippany, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) registered 33 saves for the Red Dragons (1-4-1 overall, 0-3-1 ECAC West). Sophomore goalie Kelcey Crawford (Purcellville, VA/Proctor Academy) made 12 saves in earning the shutout.
Junior Anna Tude (Stockholm, Sweden/Balmoral Hall Blazers) recorded a goal and an assist for the Soaring Eagles (3-1, 2-0). Freshman Maddie Evangelous (Hudson, MA/Worcester Academy) netted a goal, junior Johanna Eidensten (Taby, Sweden/Danderyds) collected two assists and three others each chipped in with one assist.
Elmira took a 2-0 lead after one period as Tude scored on a deflection at 8:54 and Evangelous knocked in a loose puck on the power play at 18:38. Nystrom pushed the lead to 3-0 when she finished off a 2-on-1 at 16:42 of the second period, and she finished the scoring with a deflection at the left post at 5:31 of the third period.
