UTICA, NY- Junior Keira Goin (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Hotchkiss School) became the first player in program history to record a shutout in three straight games as the Utica College women’s hockey team topped visiting SUNY Cortland 1-0 in ECAC West Conference action Sunday afternoon. Goin also matched the College’s single-season shutout record as she notched her fourth of the year.
The Pioneers improve to 8-2-1 (5-2-1 ECAC West) on the year, marking their best start through the first 11 games of the season since 2006. Utica returns to action Wednesday as it travels to Morrisville State. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Junior Emily Coope (Phoenix, AZ/Colorado Tigers) scored the lone goal of the contest as she picked up a loose puck in the slot and roofed a high shot over Cortland goalie Deanna Meunier for her fourth of the year. Sophomore Taylor Osowski (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects) and senior Janessa Haasbeek (Grand Forks, ND/Canadian International Hockey Academy) assisted on the play.
Meunier came up big in net for the Red Dragons as she made a number of good saves in the second period to keep it a one-goal game. Meunier finished with 28 saves. Goin was lights out at the other end, as she stopped 23 shots to stretch her shutout streak to 181:04 minutes. UC was 1-for-4 on the power play while the Pioneers held Cortland scoreless on four opportunities with the man advantage.
