Whale Tighten Grip On NWHL Lead

Danielle Ward scored two second-period goals in the span of six minutes and Jaimie Leonoff made 32 saves as the Whale picked up their 10th win of the NWHL season over the New York Riveters.

Shiann Darkangelo scored 2:05 into action Saturday night at Yale’s Ingalls Rink where the Whale honored former Bulldog Mandi Schwartz. Kelli Stack’s third-period goal was the game-winner.

Brooke Ammerman scored twice and Janine Weber also scored for the Riveters.

Boston set an NWHL record, scoring eight goals in a single regulation contest. There were also seven different goal scorers – Jillian Dempsey (2), Hilary Knight, Amanda Pelkey, Rachel Llanes, Brianna Decker, Jordan Smelker and Corinne Buie.

Seven of Boston’s eight goals came at even strength. Bray Ketchum scored New York’s tally.

Whale 5, Beauts 3
Kelli Stack and Yekaterina Smolentseva each scored two goals as Connecticut capped off a perfect weekend with a 5-3 win over Buffalo.

The game featured 17 minor penalties called between the two clubs. Kelley Steadman scored a pair of goals for the Beauts in defeat.
