BUFFALO, N.Y. (January 16, 2016) — The Buffalo Sabres today announced the team has recalled forward Philip Varone from the Rochester Americans (AHL).
Varone (5’10”, 193 lbs., 12/4/1990) leads all Rochester skaters with 10 goals in 33 AHL games this season. The Vaughan, Ontario native led the Amerks in points in each of the last two seasons and ranks third on the team through 38 games this season.
Since his selection by the San Jose Sharks in the fifth round (147th overall) of the 2009 NHL Draft, Varone has appeared in 37 career NHL games for the Sabres during the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons, totaling seven points (4+3) and 14 penalty minutes.
