HOOKSET, N.H. – The Morrisville State College men’s ice hockey team picked up their second win of the weekend as they swept Southern New Hampshire with the 5-3 non-conference victory Saturday afternoon in Hookset, New Hampshire.

The win lifts Morrisville State to 5-10-1 overall.

Five different Mustangs each tallied scores on the day, as Jordan Carvalho (Brampton, Ontario) led the way with one goal and two assists. Darren Young (Woodstock, Ontario) notched a goal and assisted another. Brett Johnson (Bronxville, N.Y.), Ian Wood (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Joseph Santino (Woodbridge, Ontario) each registered the additional Morrisville State goals.

Morrisville State opened up with an early 2-0 lead after notching two goals within the first six minutes of the game. Johnson tallied the first score of the contest at the 2:04 mark, converting the feed from Jimmy Philbin (Chicago, Ill.).

Within four minutes, the Mustang lead increased to two, as Young put the puck past SNHU goaltender Ryan Slatsky. Joe Ftoma (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and Carvalho each recorded an assist.

In the 12th minute, SNHU cut the lead to one with their first of the night, sending the game into the second period with a 2-1 Mustang lead.

Wood regained the two goal lead for Morrisville State with a score 2:24 into the second, before SNHU was able to respond on a power play with a man-up score at 7:12. Immediately the Mustangs made it a two goal game for a second time, as Carvalho put home the puck 35 seconds later and Santino followed with his first of the night at 15:02.

SNHU was able to score once in the third period to make it a 5-3 game, but that’s as close as they would get as Morrisville State held on for the win.

CJ Sharp (Markham, Ontario) turned away 26 to earn the win between the pipes for the Mustangs, including 10 in the final period.

Slatsky finished with stops in the loss.
