OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women’s ice hockey team traveled to Oswego Saturday for the first a two game series, sinking the Lakers 7-0.
The Cardinals would tally one goal in the first period by Melissa Sheeran on the power play to take a 1-0 lead into the opening intermission.
In the second period, Plattsburgh State would net four goals to take control of the game.
Melissa Ames and Bridget Balisy would register two goals in 56 seconds in the opening four minutes of the second period to make it 3-0 Cardinals.
Freshman Muna Fadel would score her second of the season at 9:07 before Sheeran would tally her second of the game at 11:07 giving Plattsburgh State a 5-0 advantage.
The Cardinals would add two more in the third.
First, senior defenseman, Caitlin Gilligan would score her first of the season for the second power play goal of the afternoon for the Cardinals.
Then, Balisy would notch her second of the game to finish off the 7-0 game.
Camille Leonard would make 14 saves for her fifth consecutive shutout and her 10th of the season.
Oswego goaltender Tori Trovato started the game making 21 saves before turning it over to Mariah Madrigal in the second period who finished with 16 saves.
Plattsburgh State remains unbeaten at 17-0-0 (10-0-0 ECACW) while Oswego slips to 9-4-3 (5-3-3 ECACW)
The Cardinals and Lakers will face off again Sunday at 3 p.m. to wrap up their weekend series.
