Pijaca Earns NEHC Goaltender Of The Week Honors

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – Freshman goaltender Rose Pijaca (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Academy) earned her first New England Hockey Conference Goaltender of the Week award of her career as announced by the conference office Monday.

Pijaca had a standout weekfor Manhattanville, making a career-high 44 saves against Williams on Tuesday, and then stopped 56 of 57 shots for an outstanding .982 save percentage in two games on the weekend. The 44 saves ranks third in Manhattanville women’s hockey program history for a single game. The freshman started the weekend with a 19 save shutout victory against Plymouth State Friday and continued her impressive play on Saturday when she stopped 37 shots against New England College in a loss. On the week she compiled 100 saves on 103 shots, good for an outstanding .971 save percentage.

Pijaca currently ranks fifth nationally among Division III goaltenders with a .950 save percentage, allowing just 11 goals on 222 shots on the year. She also ranks 21st nationally in goals against average, allowing 1.60 goals per game.

The Valiants will look to lean on the impressive play from the Worcester native this week when they take on Connecticut College Tuesday night at Playland Ice Casino. The Valiants will then travel to UMass Boston Friday night before returning home to face Nichols Saturday to wrap up their weekend of conference play.
