OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Colgate senior forward Tyson Spink has been selected as one of 20 candidates for the 2015-16 Senior CLASS Award, organization officials announced on Friday.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.

A native of Williamstown, Ont. Spink has appeared in 136 games for the Raiders during his four-year career, compiling 118 points on 41 goals and 77 assists. This season, Spink has appeared in all 25 games for Colgate, leading the team and ranking amongst the top 10 of ECAC Hockey in goals (10), assists (17) and points (27).

Off the ice, Spink has been an active member of both the Colgate and Hamilton communities. He and his teammates have worked closely with Team IMPACT, a non-profit organization that pairs collegiate teams with children facing life-threatening or chronic illness.

Through Team IMPACT, Spink and the Raiders have befriended Danny, a local boy with cerebral palsy. Danny is considered part of the team and often spends time at practices, games and other events with the players.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

The 20 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.

The list 20 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists in February, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot for a nationwide vote of media, coaches and fans.

The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2016 NCAA Men’s Frozen Four in April. Former Raider Spiro Goulakos was the recipient of the award for the 2014-15 season.
