Senior goaltender Greg Lewis backstopped another solid defensive effort by the Golden Knights and senior Christian Powers and sophomore Terrance Amorosa provided the goals as the Clarkson University Hockey team completed a weekend sweep in ECAC Hockey play at Cheel Arena with Saturday’s 2-1 win over Colgate before 2,749 fans.
The Knights, who defeated Cornell 2-1 in overtime on Friday, have won three straight and are 6-1-1 in their last eight games to improve to 13-10-3 overall. Clarkson, which did not have a league win in the 2015 portion of the schedule, posts a 5-6-3 ECAC Hockey mark. The Green and Gold are in eighth-place in the conference standings, four points out of a top for spot with eight games remaining in the regular season. Clarkson plays at Union and Rensselaer next weekend.
The one-goal wins over Cornell and Colgate give Clarkson its first weekend sweep of the Central NY rivals since late in the 2000-01 campaign and improved its record at Cheel this season to 10-1-2.

In a hard-fought game, much like Friday’s battle against Cornell, the Knights outshot Colgate 31-22, including a 23-13 margin through the opening 20 minutes. Lewis, who has only allowed five goals over the past five games, made 21 saves, including nine in the third period to preserve Clarkson’s one-goal victory which snapped a seven-game (0-5-2) winless slide against the Raiders.
The Knights were strong on specialty teams’ play against Colgate (7-18-2, 3-10-2), going 2-of-5 on the power play, while not allowing a shot on net in the Raiders’ lone man-advantage opportunity.
It did not take long for Clarkson’s annual “Teddy Bear Toss” to kick in as the Knights scored on the power play just 3:02 into the contest. Powers took a pass at the top of the crease from defenseman Paul Geiger and knocked in his fifth goal of the season just 34 seconds into the man-advantage. Sophomore Sam Vigneault also assisted.
Colgate tied it at 6:33 as the Spink brothers connected on a line rush, with Tyson finishing off a backhand pass from his brother Tylor in the slot. Darcy Murphy also assisted.
The Knights regained the lead with another power-play tally in the final seconds of the opening frame when Amorosa found a loose puck at the left circle and fired in his second goal of the weekend and third of the season with 15.4 seconds remaining. Amorosa, a defenseman, also tallied the game-winning goal in the overtime victory against Cornell.
Charlie Finn posted 29 saves for Colgate, which has now lost its last four games.
