MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Mustangs returned to the ice against Becker College on Saturday afternoon and completed the sweep with a 3-1 win over the visiting Hawks.
After a couple of early chances, Maria deWilde (Caistorville, Ontario) put the Mustangs on the board first with a one timer off an assist from Kaitlyn Schlake (Nampa, Idaho).
The Hawks responded just three minutes into the second period when Gina Beth Manganiello picked up a one-timer off an assist from Claudia Gee, tying the game up at one apiece. However, Megan Kirk (Breezy Point, N.Y.) gave the Mustangs the lead back with a slap shot off of a faceoff win by deWilde. DeWilde would pick up an assist on the play.
The Mustangs continued to pound the Hawks’ net with 18-1 shots on goal in the second period. Kanekaroroks McComber (Kahnawake, Quebec) found Stephanie Strymecki (Kelowna, British Colombia) on a give and go for Morrisville’s third goal of the game, bringing the score to 3-1 in favor of the Mustangs. DeWilde also picked up an assist on the play.
The Mustangs entered the third period with a 3-1 advantage over the Hawks. Morrisville was able to maintain this advantage for the win.
The Mustangs will continue their conference schedule with a game at Endicott College on February 5th and 6th. Morrisville will return to their home ice for a home series against Stevenson College on February 13th and 14th.
