UTICA, NY — Freshman forward Shawn Lynch (Syracuse, NY/Ottawa Jr. Senators (CCHL)) of the Utica College men’s hockey team was named the ECAC Men’s West Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday in a release by the conference office.
Lynch netted his first collegiate goal with 17.3 seconds left on the overtime clock to help lift Utica to a 2-1 victory over visiting Manhattanville on Saturday night at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. Lynch also assisted on the game’s opening goal on to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead midway through the first period. Lynch was playing in just his 11th career game for the Pioneers.
The Pioneers earned two key victories over Manhattanville this weekend and moved into a second place tie with the Valiants in the conference standings. Utica now has a 9-2-2 ledger on its home ice this season.
The Pioneers improved to 11-8-3 overall on the year and 5-5-2 in conference play. UC hits the road this weekend when they travel to Elmira College to take on the Soaring Eagles in conference play on Friday (7 p.m.) and Saturday (7 p.m.).
