Fredrick Earns ECAC West Goalie Of The Week Honor

UTICA, NY — Freshman goalie Michael Fredrick (Lethbridge, Alberta/Brooks Bandits (AJHL)) of the Utica College men’s hockey team was named the ECAC Men’s West Conference Goalie of the Week on Monday in a release by the conference office. The honor marks the third time this season that Fredrick has garnered one of the conference’s weekly awards.

Fredrick stopped 59 total shots as the Pioneers earned two key ECAC Men’s West Conference victories at home over Manhattanville on Friday and Saturday. Fredrick made 28 saves on Friday night as the Pioneers rallied to score four unanswered goals and earn a 5-2 victory over the Valiants. He came back and stopped 31 shots as the Pioneers earned a 2-1 overtime victory over Manhattanville on Saturday. He also guided a penalty kill unit that held Manhattanville to an 0-for-7 effort on the weekend.

Fredrick is one of the top rookie goal tenders in the country and ranks third nationally among freshman net minders with a goals against average of 2.09 this season. He leads the conference in minutes played this season (1263:04) and ranks second in the ECAC West with a save percentage of .933.

After two key victories over Manhattanville this weekend the Pioneers moved into a second place tie with the Valiants in the conference standings.

The Pioneers improved to 11-8-3 overall on the year and 5-5-2 in conference play. Utica now has a 9-2-2 ledger on its home ice this season. UC hits the road this weekend when they travel to Elmira College to take on the Soaring Eagles in conference play on Friday (7 p.m.) and Saturday (7 p.m.).
