HANOVER, N.H. – Troy Crema scored with 1:08 left in overtime to lift the Dartmouth College men’s hockey team to a 2-1 come-from-behind win Saturday night against No. 18 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). With the win, the Big Green improve to 13-11-1 overall (10-8-0 ECAC Hockey), while the Engineers drop to 15-11-6 (7-5-6 ECAC Hockey).
Crema stuck home a rebounds late in overtime for his fifth goal of the season. Assists went to Tim Shoup and Connor Yau.
RPI sophomore Mike Prapavessis opened the scoring at 6:23 of the opening period. The Engineers generated good puck movement in the offensive zone, before senior Travis Fulton found Prapavessis cutting inside the left circle for his third goal of the season. Sophomore Kenny Gillespie picked up the secondary assist.
Following a scoreless second period, the Big Green drew even at 11:17 of the third. Ryan Bullock potted his first of the season from Brett Patterson and Grant Opperman, knotting the score at 1-1.
The Engineers were out-shot 9-2 in the second and 11-6 in the third, but Dartmouth registered all six shots in the extra session.
Senior goaltender Jason Kasdorf (9-9-4) finished with 32 saves for RPI, while James Kruger (4-2-0) had 18 at the other end of the ice.
RPI is back in action next weekend, when it hosts first-ranked Quinnipiac and Princeton at the Houston Field House on Friday (7pm) and Saturday (7pm),respectively. Dartmouth welcomes Colgate and 15th-ranked Cornell to Thompson Arena, next weekend.
