The Stampede are sure keeping things close in the race for the 2015-2016 playoffs in the West, picking up four of six potential points this past weekend at home vs Roc City. The Stampede remain three points behind Lockport for the final spot in the West as the Express swept Wilkes Barre last weekend to grab nine crucial points. With five games remaining for the Stamp, it could come down to the last two regular season games in Lockport on March 5th and 6th to see how the West will be set up for the playoff match-ups.
In game one of the three game series on Friday night in Morrisville The Stampede played a very tight game against the Royals.
Walker’s big game bests Roc City in 4-2 Syracuse win

Nate Walker was all over the ice for Syracuse, as he tallied two goals and two assists in Syracuse’s 4-2 win over Roc City.
Walker scored at 12:34 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Syracuse and again while 19:38 into the third to make the score 4-2 Syracuse.
Syracuse put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Roc City to score on any of its four power plays. Roc City was unable to stop Syracuse from sending pucks towards the net, and Syracuse eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.
Syracuse additionally got points from Brendan Sand, who also had one goal and one assist. Syracuse also got a goal from Ryan Gilroy as well. In addition, Syracuse received assists from Kyle VanWagner, who had two and Dan Buehler and Rocco DeRollo, who contributed one each.
Roc City was held below its usual level of production. Roc City puts an average of 4.4 pucks into the net per game.
Roc City was helped by Sam Cammilleri, who registered one goal. Cammilleri scored 12:42 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Syracuse.Aidan Conolly picked up the assist. Brandon Corey also scored for Roc City. Other players who recorded assists for Roc City were Cameron Clark,Anthony DePetres, and Justin Allen, who each chipped in one.
Syracuse’s VanWagner stopped 27 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Syracuse incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Justin Nevingerrejected 30 shots on goal for Roc City. Roc City incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
Game two on Saturday afternoon at the Ice-Plex in Morrisville was a much different story with the Royals coming back to grab a win.
Corey’s goals lift Roc City to 5-1 victory over Syracuse

Brandon Corey was all over the ice for Roc City, as he tallied two goals in Roc City’s 5-1 win over Syracuse.
Corey scored at 13:17 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Roc City and again while 1:00 into the second to make the score 2-0 Roc City.
Syracuse was stymied by Roc City’s netminder Ian Stahl, who stopped 34 shots during the victory. The solid play of Stahl will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 4.64.
Roc City forced Syracuse’s goalies to work without much rest, finishing with 37 shots and forcing 32 saves. Kyle VanWagner made 26 stops andTimothy Evans made six.
Roc City also got points from Sam Cammilleri, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Roc City included Robert Vasta andJustin Allen, who scored one goal each. In addition, Roc City received assists from Nicholas Cignarale and Sam Haile, who contributed one each andCameron Clark, Joseph Gardner, and Anthony DePetres, who each chipped in two.
Syracuse’s offense rang up 35 shots on Roc City’s net.
Syracuse was led by Christian Paradiso, who scored the team’s only goal. Paradiso scored short handed 12:35 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Roc City. Syracuse found itself down a man on Nicholas Mandia’s hooking.

The final game of the weekend was anything but a Valentine’s Day love fest for the two teams as both teams pushed hard for the victory knowing that every point would count down the home stretch.

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Syracuse defeated Roc City in a shootout 9-8 (1-0 SO).
The two teams needed five turns to complete the shootout.
Syracuse overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Syracuse was down 2-0 after a power play goal by Roc City’s Anthony DePetres at 17:32 in the first period. Syracuse tied things up at 8-8 on a power play goal by Raymond Rowe at 13:01 in the third period.
Syracuse kept Roc City’s goalie busy throughout the game, and Patrick Massey made 41 saves on 50 shots. Syracuse outdid its season average for goals scored. Syracuse has scored at the pace of 2.7 goals per game during the current campaign. Syracuse was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 42 penalty minutes.
Syracuse was led by Hunter Soden, who finished with three goals and one assist. Syracuse additionally got points from Ryan Gilroy, who also had one goal and one assist, Nate Walker, who also racked up one goal and two assists, and Nicholas Chalifoux, who also registered one goal and one assist.Christian Paradiso also scored for Syracuse. In addition, Syracuse received assists from Tucker Bartenslager, who had three and Kelsey Head, Richard Hart, Dan Buehler, and Rocco DeRollo, who contributed one each.
Roc City racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 53 minutes in penalty time. Roc City surpassed its season average of 26.0 penalty minutes per game. Syracuse was unable to stop Roc City from sending pucks towards the net, and Roc City eventually piled up 51 shots on goal. Roc City surpassed its usual scoring output this season. Roc City averages 4.5 goals per game.

Roc City also got points from Cameron Clark, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Matt Corey, who also had one goal and four assists to lead the team in points, Brandon Corey, who also registered one goal and two assists, and DePetres, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Kyle VanWagner rejected 43 shots on goal for Syracuse. Syracuse registered two goals on two power play opportunities. Roc City registered one goal on three power play opportunities. For Roc City, Bryan Smith was ejected from the game.
“All in all I was happy with our guy’s this past weekend. We had a few mistakes that cost us but we battled back each time to stay in the playoff hunt.” stated Stampede coach Mike Beavis. Friday was our best effort systems wise although we did show tenacity in Sunday’s game. Going down the stretch we will need to stay composed and discipline if we want to have a chance at a playoff run. Our guy’s got caught up in the moment a bit on Sunday and didn’t play our game and that can really hurt us as a team. The Stampede will travel to Roc-City for another three game set next weekend at Lake Shore arena in Rochester. “It’s tough to face guy’s six in a row and it can lead to some mixed feelings but I think both teams will buckle down and get ready for playoff style action next weekend. Roc-City is still trying to grab second place as well as hold off Lockport and us for third. It is sure to be an exciting finish over the next couple weeks that’s for sure.” stated Beavis
