HANOVER, N.H. – Corey Kalk tallied four points to lead Dartmouth to a 5-2 victory over Colgate in ECAC Hockey action Friday at Thompson Arena.
Kalk scored two goals and added two assists to help lead Dartmouth to the win and a sweep of the season series. The sophomore forward was one of four Big Green players to register multiple points as Jack Barre and Carl Hessler finished with a goal and an assist while Cam Roth dished out two helpers.
Dartmouth took control of the contest during the first period, scoring three times to build a 3-0 cushion after 20 minutes.
Grant Opperman staked Big Green to a 1-0 lead at the 8:23 mark, firing home a loose puck from just above the goal line on the left side for his fifth goal of the season.
Kalk doubled the Dartmouth cushion less than two minutes later with his first goal of the evening, firing a wrist shot from the middle of the slot past Colgate netminder Charlie Finn and inside the right post to make it 2-0.
Jack Barre closed out the opening-period barrage with 19 seconds remaining in the first, capping a Big Green rush with a backhanded effort inside the left post to make a 3-0 contest.
Kalk expanded the Big Green lead to 4-0 with his second goal at the 17:07 mark of the second period, ripping a slap shot from the right faceoff circle that Raider backup keeper Bruce Racine got a piece of, but trickled past him and across the goal line.
Evan Peterson got Colgate on the board just 58 seconds later, firing a snap shot from the middle of the slot that bounced off Dartmouth keeper James Kruger’s shoulder and into the net to trim the Raider deficit to 4-1.
Tylor Spink pulled the Raiders within two during the final minute of the middle frame when he stuffed home a goalmouth feed from Mike Borkowski to make a 4-2 contest.
Carl Hessler closed out the scoring with an empty net goal with 2.9 remaining in the third period.
Finn got the start in goal for Colgate and made 10 saves before being replaced by Racine at the start of the second. Racine recorded eight stops over the final 40 minutes. Kruger recorded 18 saves between the pipes for Dartmouth.

– Bruce Racine made his third appearance of the season in goal for Colgate. His 40 minutes between the pipes represented a season high in minutes played for the sophomore keeper.
