Toupal Named Rookie Of The Week, Statesmen Steady In Polls

Hobart College hockey first-year defenseman Jonas Toupal (Vcelna, Czech Republic) was named the ECAC West Rookie of the Week this week. Senior forward Brad Robbins (Murrieta, Calif.) and senior goaltender Lino Chimienti (Montreal, Quebec) were named to the league’s weekly honor roll.

The Statesmen, who posted a 5-2 win over Elmira on Saturday night to close out the regular season, remain No. 5 in the D3hockey.com poll and No. 6 in the USCHO.com poll for the second week in a row. Hobart is now 19-4-2 and finished with a 12-3-0 conference record.

The Statesmen lead the ECAC West in scoring offense (4.12 g/gm) and scoring defense (2.00 ga/gm) and are second on the penalty kill (90.1%). Hobart ranks third in the nation on the penalty kill, fifth in team win percentage (.800), seventh in scoring offense, and tied for 10th in scoring defense.

Toupal posted his first two collegiate goals in Saturday’s win. He scored the Statesmen’s first goal in the first period and then added what proved to be the game winner early in the third period. Toupal has registered two goals and five assists for seven points this season. He’s recorded at least one point in each of the last four games.

Robbins led Hobart with three points on a goal and two assists on Saturday. He set up the Statesmen’s second and fourth goals before scoring Hobart’s fifth goal on a power-play in the third period. It was Robbins’s fourth three-point game of the season. He leads the Statesmen with 29 points and 16 goals. Robbins ranks second in the league in points, third in goals, tied for sixth in assists, and tied for eighth in power-play goals (3).

Chimienti played all 60 minutes in goal against Elmira, earning his 10th win of the season. He turned aside 40 of the 42 shots he faced. Chimienti is sporting a .943 save percentage, a 1.81 goals against average and a 10-2-2 record in goal. He leads the conference and ranks in the top 12 in the nation in both in goals against average (12th in nation) and save percentage (6th).

The Statesmen earned the top seed in the ECAC West tournament and earned a first round bye. Hobart will take on the lowest remaining seed, on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 7:30 p.m. in The Cooler.
