ERIE, Pa. — The Mercyhurst men’s ice hockey team dropped a 4-1 contest to the Rochester Institute of Technology, resulting in a two-game elimination by the visiting Tigers in the Atlantic Hockey Tournament quarterfinals. The contest was played on Saturday in front of 1,984 fans at the Mercyhust Ice Center.
Jonathan Charbonneau scored the lone Mercyhurst goal with 2:34 remaining in the contest; that tally served as the Lakers’ last score of the season. Derek Barachassisted the play.
RIT netted two goals in the second period and two more in the third to take a 4-0 lead. Both goals in the second were power-play goals — one by Chase Norrish and another by Greg Amlong. Andrew Miller and Erik Brown added Tiger goals in the third.
Mike Rotolo was solid in net for RIT (16-14-6), finishing with 31 saves. Brandon Wildung had 31 saves at the other end for Mercyhurst (17-15-4).
The Tigers held a 35-32 shot advantage and went 2-for-5 on the power play while Mercyhurst was 0-for-6.
