SYRACUSE, NY – Yann Danis made 17 saves and Ben Johnson scored, but the Albany Devils lost, 3-1, to the Syracuse Crunch Friday at Onondaga County War Memorial Arena. The game marked the first time Albany has lost to Syracuse this season in five outings.
The Devils move to 39-17-8-1 overall, while the Crunch extended their winning streak to four games to improve to 29-25-10-3.
Danis, who made his second consecutive start since returning from the NHL, had some new faces playing in front of him on both defense and offense. Albany’s piecemeal lineup included three players on professional tryouts, one on an amateur tryout and two more recently recalled from the ECHL.
Johnson, who is one of those recent recalls, scored his second goal of the season and second in as many games. His tally came at 11:59 of the first period to make the game, 1-1. Justin Crandall, who signed a PTO on Wednesday, registered his first point as a Devil.
Syracuse’s goals came from Dylan Blujus at 8:41 and Ryan Martindale at 13:16 of the first period. Jonathan Drouin added insurance at 7:42 of the third period.
