The Hobart College hockey team put five players on the 2016 D3hockey.com East All-Region teams. The Statesmen had more players earn all-region honors than any other program on both the East and the West teams.
Senior forward Brad Robbins (Murrieta, Calif) was named to the first team. Senior goalie Lino Chimienti (Montreal, Quebec), junior defenseman Carl Belizario (Dorval, Quebec) and senior forward Mac Olson (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) earned spots on the second team, and junior defenseman Jon Neal (Encinitas, Calif.) garnered third team honors.
An AHCA East third team All-American and All-ECAC West first team selection, Robbins played in all 28 games. He led the Statesmen with 32 points and 19 goals. Robbins garnered a spot on the ECAC West All-Tournament team and was tabbed the Most Outstanding Player, after notching three goals in the tournament, including the game-winning goal in the championship game. Robbins matched a Hobart record with four assists in a 7-3 victory over Utica during the regular season. He posted two or more points in eight games.
Robbins transferred to Hobart as a junior. He played in 52 games for the Statesmen, registering 28 goals and 21 assists for 49 points.
Chimienti earned AHCA second team All-American and All-ECAC West first team honors this year. He recorded a Hobart single season record .946 save percentage and ranks second in Hobart history with a 1.71 goals against average this season. He logged an 11-3-2 record in goal. Chimienti earned a spot on the ECAC West All-Tournament team after earning a 5-0 shutout victory over Utica in the championship game, turning aside all 30 shots he faced. He made a season-high 45 saves in a 1-1 tie with then No. 7/8 Trinity. Chimienti finished the season ranked second in Division III in save percentage, eighth in goals against average and tied for 14th in win percentage.
Chimienti played in 51 career games. He ranks fourth on the Hobart career list for wins (31), fourth in save percentage (.921), fourth in goals against average (2.42) tied for fourth in shutouts (3) and sixth in saves (1378).
An AHCA second team All-American, Belizario also garnered All-ECAC West first team recognition. He played in all 28 games, registering 14 points on four goals and 10 assists. Belizario tallied a team-high four power-play goals. He played a key role in the Hobart defense that notched three shutouts this winter, with two coming in their ECAC West tournament title run. The Statesmen finished the year tied for fifth in the nation in scoring defense, allowing an average of 1.86 goals per game.
In 81 career games, Belizario has posted 10 goals and 31 assists for 41 points. He earned ECAC West All-Rookie honors in 2013-14.
Olson continues to garner awards after an outstanding Hobart hockey career. He was named an AHCA first team All-American, a finalist for the Sid Watson Award (NCAA Division III Player of the Year), tabbed the ECAC West Player of the Year, voted to the All-ECAC West first team and earned All-USCHO.com third team recognition. Olson ranked second on Hobart with a career-high 27 points. He produced 13 goals and matched a career-high with 14 assists. Olson logged at least a point in 18 games, registering two or more in six Hobart wins.
Olson played in 103 career games, and produced 45 goals and 50 assists for 95 points. He notched nine career game winners. Olson served as team captain as a senior and an alternate captain as a junior. He earned ECAC West All-Academic honors three years in a row, was named to the All-ECAC West second team as a sophomore and the All-Rookie team as a first-year. In 2012-13, he was named the ECAC West’s Rookie of the Year.
Neal played in 27 games this winter. He dished out nine assists. Neal posted two assists in a 6-2 win over Nazareth and in a 7-1 win over Neumann. He registered an assist in a 5-0 win over Utica in the ECAC West tournament championship, helping Hobart to its fourth league tournament title. Neal led the Statesmen with 31 blocked shots this winter. He played an integral role in the stingy Hobart defensive unit. Neal also played a key role in Hobart’s penalty kill unit that finished the year ranked third in the nation (89.8%).
Neal has played in 82 career games, registering five goals and 25 assists for 30 points.
The Statesmen finished 2015-16 with a 21-5-2 overall record, tying the program record for wins in a season. It was Hobart’s 14th consecutive winning season. The Statesmen made their sixth NCAA tournament appearance, falling in the quarterfinals. Hobart captured its fourth ECAC West regular season and tournament titles.
